These roads on the north east side of town, are close to, and named after, Saint Marks Church.

I believe that there was once an older Saint Marks Church, or possibly Chapel, in Saint Marks Road itself, but I don’t have a reference for this – I think it was known as an ‘iron church’.

St Martins Church St SP1, St Martins Terrace SP1

Although there are other ‘Saint Martins’, notably Saint Martin de Porres who is known as the patron saint for those facing racial discrimination 1, both of the roads named for Saint Martin are in the proximity of Saint Martin’s Church, which is dedicated to the most famous Martin, Saint Martin of Tours.
