Meadow Road, Salisbury

Meadow Road is north of Salisbury city centre. It’s one of the roads that cut in half by the ring road.

The ‘Meadow’ is probably a reference to the land which is now the park opposite the Fire Station. The park is still typically known as ‘the meadows’, or ‘the water meadows’.

Melemonger Street, Salisbury

The name ‘Melemonger Street’ is no longer used. What was Melemonger Street is now ‘Greencroft Street’.

The road is on the eastern edge of the city centre.

Melvin Close, Laverstock

Melvin Close is in Laverstock, which is a village to the east of Salisbury.

Merrifield Road, Ford

However, although there is certainly scope for confusion, the addresses for the two roads would be easily distinguished by their location.

Although they are fairly close together as the crow flies, Merrifield Road in in Ford, whereas Myrrfield Road is on the Bishopdown Farm estate.

Milford Hill, Salisbury

Milford Hill is on the eastern side of Salisbury.

I think it’s fair to say that ‘Milford Hill’ denotes both the hill itself and a specific road.

The road called Milford Hill runs eastwards from Milford Street, in the centre of Salisbury, towards Milford and Laverstock.

Myrrfield Road, Salisbury

Myrrfield Road is on the Bishopdown Farm estate, on the north east side of Salisbury.

Myrrfield is the name of the meadow in which Salisbury Cathedral was built.

It is sometime spelt Merry-field, as in a poem by a Doctor Walter Pope in 1713:
