On 29th July 1861 the Crown Prince and Princess of Prussia visited Salisbury[1].

The Crown Prince was Frederick. He was the son of the first Emperor of a unified Germany, William I. His Princess was Victoria, eldest daughter of Queen Victoria.

William I was seen as a liberal. He was often in conflict both with his father, and with the German Chancellor, Bismarck.
