3rd December 2009 - Stonehenge appears on Google Street View

Stonehenge at sun riseOn this day in 2009, UNESCO and Google announced that world heritage sites including Stonehenge could be seen on Google Street View

UNESCO’s Director-General, Irina Bokova said that

The alliance with Google makes it possible to offer virtual visits of the sites to everyone, to increase awareness and to encourage participation in the preservation of these treasures[1]

While this is entirely laudable it should perhaps be seen in the context of Google’s tax arrangements:

You could pay for an awful lot of ‘awareness, participation and preservation’ with 2 billion dollars!
