6th May 1851 - 'a fine trout' caught in the channel opposite the White Hart

On May the 7th 1851, evidence was given that ‘A fine trout weighing nearly 10 pounds was caught yesterday in the channel opposite the White Hart’.

This was part of the campaign by local landowners and politicians against the filling in of Salisbury’s water courses, which it seems, were in large part responsible for the cholera epidemic
