6th May 1983 - Zimbabwe's 'Salisbury' becomes 'Harare'

On the 6th May 1983, the city of Salisbury in Zimbabwe became known as Harare[1].

The name ‘Salisbury’ was the most high-profile of dozens of name changes that came into effect at the same time.

Zimbabwe itself had changed it’s name from ‘Rhodesia’.
