9th November 1927 - Lady Hulse becomes first woman Mayor of Salisbury

Breamore   The Hulse Family's Home.JPG On this day in 1927 Lady Edith Hulse of Breamore House was elected as Salisbury’s first woman mayor. Only one city, Norwich, has previously had a female Mayor.

Lady Hulse’s husband, Sir Edward Henry Hulse, was Conservative MP for Salisbury from 1886 to 1897, and her father, Lord Burnham, founded the Daily Telegraph.
