First Thursday in May 1723 - new prize at Salisbury Races

On the first Thursday in May from either 1722 or 1723 the first race for a ‘montest’ or ‘moneth’ was run at ‘the new round course on Salisbury Plain’.

The presentation of the trophy took place at the George Inn in Salisbury[1].
