10th January 1941 - Dr John Gordon arrives in UK to set up Harvard Hospital

Harvard sealOn 10th January in 1941 Dr John E Gordon arrived in the UK to set up the ‘American Red Cross-Harvard Hospital’ at Harnham.

It became Harvard Hospital, then the Common Cold Research Unit[1]

23 nurses were torpedoed on the way over. 6 lost their lives and 2 spent 19 days in an open boat [2]
