Painter Philip Hughes has a forthcoming exhibition at Salisbury Museum. There are further details at the link below:

What’s On – Ancient Tracks | Salisbury & South Wiltshire Museum

…. and you can see some more of his paintings if you click on ‘Zoom and Other Views’ on Amazon’s page for his book:

Tracks: Walking the Ancient Landscapes of Britain

I like the paintings very much, but I was also struck by the text[1]:

While I have been to Stonehenge many times, it has usually been just driving to the car park and going in. Recently I have been walking various tracks to approach the circle and to try to understand its settings in the landscape.

To get an idea of the setting of Stonehenge you have to walk there

I agree with that – my feeling is that to get an idea of Stonehenge itself you have to walk there too.

Footnotes

  1. The book is co-authored with Kay Syrad I’m not sure whether whether Kay Syrad or Philip Hughes does the text []
