Cathedral choir
There’s an odd story on the BBC website about a problem faced by Salisbury Cathedral choir. I’ve seen two or three pieces over the last few years about how children are reaching puberty at an earlier age than they used to. As far as I can tell, nobody really knows why this is, and to be honest I’m not sure whether there is any real data on this.
Anyhow, the phenomena is clearly posing a problem for the Cathedral choir, because the choristers’ voices are breaking at an earlier age. Mr Halls the Cathedral’s director of music says: “If you’ve lost three out of four of your senior boys – they’re your most senior singers as well as the most experienced, you have to be a little bit careful perhaps with the music that you put in front of the remaining boys.”

The Haunch in the Telegraph
The Haunch of Venison featured in a Daily Telegraph website review1 under the tagline ‘At the The Haunch of Venison, Salisbury, you don’t just glimpse history, you live it.’
I often take visitors into the Haunch of Venison – it’s on my list of stuff to see in Salisbury just after the Cathedral and the Doom painting in St Thomas’ church.
Drowning the Water Meadows
There are details of the controlled ‘drowning’ of parts of Harnham Water Meadows on the Salisbury U3As’ website. This ‘drowning’ apparently ‘brings forward the ‘early bite’ of grass for livestock’.

The opera ‘The Barber of Seville’ has been re-located to Salisbury in a ‘pub opera’ production at theTHE King’s Head Theatre in London. I don’t know why they picked Salisbury
