The house on the corner which currently hosts a clothes shop called, I think, Anokkaa is known as Mitre House.
A mitre is the hat worn by a bishop, the word coming from the Greek ‘mitra‘ meaning ‘turban’ or ‘headband’ 1
Traditionally, Bishop Poore built a house on this site as a temporary residence while the Cathedral was being built.2
Since the 15th Century, it has been the custom for Bishops of Salisbury to put on their robes in this house before walking over to the Cathedral for their enthronement.
