Nursery Road, Salisbury

Nursery Road is between the Wilton Road and the railway, to the west of Salisbury.

I would guess that it refers to a nursery of plants rather than children, but I have no proof for this. My guess is on the basis that botanical nurseries tend perhaps to be longer lived than children’s nurseries.

If you know for sure, or have some sort of clue, please leave a comment.

Both sorts of nursery have the same linguistic root – they come from the Latin nutrire, meaning to nourish or suckle. 1
