One of a couple of road names which probably aren’t in any of the official maps or documents, but I think most people who have lived in Salisbury for any length of time would know where it is.
Snakey is the lane which runs from the Woodford valley up to the crossroads with the Devizes Road and The Avenue.
Its presumably called Snakey because it zig zags up the hill. This makes it less steep than it would be …. but its still very steep. I think that the Salisbury Firse Station 10K run goes up this hill – its a bit of a challenge.
I googled ‘Snakey’ and there are many references to it in forums, and other user generated content sites 1,2, 3, 4, but I’ve not found any official mention of the name.
