Saint Matthew is, slightly disappointingly from a personal point of view, patron saint of Accountants.
Before becoming an apostle, he was a tax collector for the Romans, making him “on a par with harlots and thievesas shameless public sinners” 1.
The thing that I remember about Saint Matthew is the simplicity of the story of his conversion:
{9:9} And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
