An avenue is a road which has trees on either side. It typically brings to mind (at least, it typically brings to my mind) a city street that has been decoratively planted with trees at regular intervals, but ‘The Avenue’ near Wilton is mainly rural. It leads from the crossroads with Devizes Road and ‘Snakey ‘ Hill down into Wilton .
