Penruddock Close, Salisbury

Penruddock Close on the west side of Salisbury is named after the Penruddock family, who were based in Compton Chamberlayne. There is a pub called the ‘Penruddocke Arms’ at Baverstock, which is nearby.

Pinewood Close and Pinewood Way, Salisbury

Pinewood Close and Pinewood Way both on the Bemerton Heath Estate, which is in north west Salisbury.

These are part of a small group of roads which are named after trees – the others being Cedar Close, Hazel Close and Rowan Close.

The Valley SP2

From memory I think that this road would actually be looking down into a valley rather than in the valley itself – I think its on the ridge, next to Devizes Road, between the Avon valley and Bemerton Heath.

Tournament Road – named after the London Olympics?

The first London Olympic games were held in 1948. I think it’s possible that the houses in Tournament Road are from this period, so my guess is that Tournament Road was named in honour of the London Olympics.
