Fairly close to the River Bourne, and a 100 yards or so to the West of it. Road leading Westwards out of the City. Runs parallel with the railway, which would have been operated at one time by the London and South Western Railway. One of a group of rural sounding streetnames that make up a 1970s development in Laverstock. Developers seem to prefer the word ‘West’ to the word ‘East’ – presumably because it has more up-market connotations e.g. the West End versus the East End of London. One of group of roads named after parts of London – the others being Kensington, Richmond, Kingsland, Highbury and West End. There doesn’t seem to be a ‘Catford Road’, funnily enough… I guess this is simply the road leading to a wood to the West. I’m not aware of a wood called the ‘West Wood’. |
