14th November 2009 - Salisbury-born Julie Dibens wins Ironman 70.3 world championship

In November 2009, Julie Dibens, who was born in Salisbury[1], won the world Ironman 70.3 women’s championship, beating the American Mary Beth Ellis by 4 minutes and 16 seconds[2].

The 70.3 Ironman is sometimes known as ‘a half Iron Man’ - it’s a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run[3].
